Operational Manager Geraldine Vaughan says, "the Kickstarter scheme is really exciting for us here at the Rainbow Centre, it means we are able to recruit new staff for our charity to help us develop our services and also put them in a great position for their future.

We also believe that a hard day’s work deserves fair pay and therefore we are proud to be able to offer our kickstart employees a salary starting from £9 per hour."

What is kickstart?

The kickstart scheme is a 6-month paid job with a local employer, funded by the government. It provides a fully funded opportunity for young people to gain work experience in some of Britain's most exciting companies. The scheme is open for young people ages 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit.

Current Kickstarter, Charles (Marketing and Communications Support Officer)

“Kickstart has given me a real opportunity to dive into the sector that I studied for whilst at University. As many graduate jobs require an amount of experience, this gives me the perfect combination to both gain that experience that I need and be paid for it at the same time. Using the job centre is often not considered an option for younger people yet it was a simple process, and my job coach was incredibly helpful. My coach understood that I was looking for a job in my field of study and found a placement for me using the kickstart scheme. So far, I have been able to work closely with the marketing officer here at the Rainbow Centre, Vicki and she’s helping me to expand my knowledge within marketing and upscale the elements that I want to improve on.

I couldn’t recommend the scheme enough, I've settled in and really enjoying my time here at the Rainbow Centre, everyone has been friendly and accommodating and I am gaining invaluable experience that will help me throughout my career in marketing.”
